Digimarc Patented Digital Watermarking Technology Makes All 79 Recipes in January/February Issue Scannable and Interactive
NEW YORK,NY (December 20, 2012) – Cooking Light, the nation's leading epicurean brand, today announced that its January/February 2013 issue will use the Digimarc Discover platform to digitally watermark all 79 recipes in the issue, making it the first magazine brand to make every recipe in a single issue scannable via this technology. Following the January/February issue, Cooking Light will continue to make every recipe in every issue scannable and interactive using the Digimarc Discover platform.
Using the Digimarc Discover app, a free download on the iTunes App Store and Google Play, consumers can use their smartphones to scan recipe photos to be automatically connected to the recipe page on sister-site, MyRecipes.com. Once there, they can save it to their recipe file, share favorites with friends, organize menus, and make grocery shopping lists.
"We know our consumers are looking for practical tools to make family meal planning quick and easy; so we're excited to provide this smart solution," said Cooking Light Editor Scott Mowbray. "They can easily scan, save, shop, cook and share with a convenient resource they always have with them—their smartphone."
Cooking Light prominently promotes the new feature on the cover of the January/February issue and uses a red icon throughout the issue with simple instructions to let consumers know the recipe images on that page are interactive.
"We are ecstatic about working with Cooking Light," said Ed Knudson, EVP, Sales and Marketing for Digimarc. "We've always thought of interactive recipes as a perfect use of our technology and we're certain Cooking Light's readers are really going to love the experience."
The January/February 2013 issue of Cooking Light is available on newsstands December 28, 2012, and the Digimarc Discover App is available from the iTunes App Store and Google Play.

About the Digimarc Discover PlatformThe Digimarc Discover platform enables smartphones and other sensor-equipped devices to "see and hear" media content using built-in cameras and microphones. Consumers simply direct their phone at content they are interested in and are presented with a range of associated network services such as purchase a product, view a video, save for later, download a coupon, or share with a friend, for example. The Digimarc Discover mobile applications are available for licensing and can be integrated into existing applications. Publishers and others can embed digital watermarks into content using the Digimarc Discover Online Services Portal (OSP). The OSP is being used by magazines, newspapers, packaging companies, advertising agencies, and others to enable a variety of new experiences and capabilities from print.
