David Geithner
EVP and Group President, Style & Entertainment Group
David Geithner was named executive vice president of Time Inc. and group president of Time Inc.'s Style & Entertainment Group (SEG) in 2012. In this newly created role, Geithner, a 20-year Time Inc. veteran, oversees and implements overall operating business strategy for six of the company's leading multimedia content brands: PEOPLE, InStyle, PEOPLE StyleWatch, Essence, Entertainment Weekly, and PEOPLE en Español. He has managed business operations for the SEG brands as senior vice president and group general manager since 2008.
Geithner began his career at Time Inc. in 1992 as a finance associate at Time, and joined PEOPLE two years later as advertising revenue manager. In 1996 his role was expanded to editorial finance manager of PEOPLE, PEOPLE.com and InStyle. He was also responsible for overseeing the re-launch and expansion of PEOPLE.com as well as the launches of PEOPLE StyleWatch and the PEOPLE Hollywood Daily. He served as general manager of PEOPLE en Español as well as Teen PEOPLE, where he developed the monthly publication's business plan prior to its launch in 1998.
During Geithner's tenure at PEOPLE, the brand was recognized as Advertising Age's "Magazine of the Year" and landed on its "A-List," was included in Adweek's "Hot List," "Brand Leaders," "Brand Blazers," and "Hit List," and Capell's Circulation Report's "Best Performers In Circulation" for nine consecutive years. PEOPLE also received a National Magazine Award nomination in 2008 for "General Excellence" in the 2 million-plus circulation category and ranked No. 1 in PIB pages, revenue, and share for six consecutive years. PEOPLE.com was named Adweek's "Magazine Website of the Year" in 2010, and PEOPLE en Español was featured in Adweek's "10 Under 50 Hot List" for four consecutive years. InStyle consistently ranked within the top five on Adweek's "Hot List" for five years, was ranked No. 1 in Capell's Circulation Report's "Best Performers In Circulation" three years in a row, and appeared in its top 10 for eleven consecutive years.
For the past three years Geithner has managed business operations for Mexico City-based Grupo Expansión (GEx), which was acquired by Time Inc. in 2005. GEx is the premier media group of high-end consumer and business magazines and websites in Mexico, with a portfolio of eight websites and 17 magazine titles including Expansión, GEx's flagship publication and Mexico's leading business magazine, Quién, a bi-weekly celebrity magazine that carries more advertising pages than any other periodical in Mexico, and Mediotiempo.com, Mexico's No. 1 sports website. GEx is the No. 3 publishing company in Mexico by revenue, is the leader in market share in the business, celebrity, and fashion categories, and has shown double-digit profit growth in each of the past three years.
Geithner has played an active role in several nonprofit organizations including the New York City chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, where he has served as a board member since 2006 and is a board sponsor of its Hispanic outreach efforts. Geithner was honored by the organization in 2012 with the "Time Is Now" award for his corporate fundraising efforts.
Time Warner nominated Geithner for the David Rockefeller Fellows Program, where he served as a Fellow in 2010. This prestigious 11-month program exposes participants to key leaders and issues in the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors of New York City. The program is designed to enable a new generation of private sector leaders to deepen their understanding of the public needs of New York, and to take an active role in shaping its future.
David Geithner graduated from Dartmouth with a B.A. in government and also earned an M.B.A. from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He lives in Larchmont, NY with his wife and three children.
