Time Inc. - Community - Literacy.

Literacy

As a company founded upon great journalism, Time Inc. is committed to promoting literacy in our communities. Through companywide programs and initiatives, Time Inc. employees are able to make an impact on students and adults by encouraging and supporting a life-long love of reading.

These programs include:

Time To Read

The Time To Read Program trains employees as mentors with elementary and middle school students, helping them to succeed in school through stronger reading skills. Students meet with Time Inc. employees each week and use Time Inc. titles, including TIME for Kids and Sports Illustrated Kids, as engagement tools to improve children's reading levels and develop an enthusiasm for reading.

Originally established by Time Inc. in 1985, Time to Read has since been adopted by several other Time Warner divisions including Time Warner Cable, HBO and Turner Networks and is now the nation's largest corporate-sponsored literacy/mentoring program.

Laura Bush Gulf Coast School Library Recovery Initiative

Following the Gulf Coast hurricanes of 2005, Time Inc. has supported the Laura Bush Gulf Coast School Library Recovery Initiative. This initiative rebuilds school libraries in the area by providing free reading materials to replenish those lost. Time Inc. has encouraged other publishers to support the initiative, giving public school libraries free subscriptions from an enormous catalog of magazines.

Employee Donations

Time Inc. matches employee donations two to one to those organizations supporting literacy. During Time Inc.'s annual "Time To Give Back" campaign, employees donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to literacy related causes.
