Award-Winning Journalist Bob Meadows Joins ESSENCE

May 3, 2010 (New York, N.Y.)—Award-winning journalist Bob Meadows joins ESSENCE as Deputy Editor, it was announced today by Editor-in-Chief Angela Burt-Murray. In this role Meadows will oversee the News and Culture sections of the magazine—which also celebrates its fortieth anniversary this year. He will begin his duties on May 3.
An esteemed journalist and native of Detroit, Meadows has interviewed some of the world's biggest stars—from the late Michael Jackson to Bill Cosby—while also excelling at human-interest stories. Prior to ESSENCE, he spent the last 11 years as a writer, editor and reporter with People magazine. In 2009 he also led a five-person team in the redesign of the publication Time for Kids. Previously, Meadows was the Minority Affairs reporter at the Charlotte Observer. He was a key player on a team nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for an extensive series on Charlotte, North Carolina's poorest neighborhoods. While there, he also interviewed Rosa Parks, which remains the highlight of his career.

Meadows graduated from the University of Michigan. He and his wife reside in Brooklyn, New York.
