Julie Lavington Named Consumer Magazines Publisher Of
The Year At PPA Awards
June 17, 2010
Julie Lavington, publishing director of Look – Britain’s best-selling fashion weekly – last night scooped the top publisher award at the Periodical Publishers Association (PPA) gala awards ceremony.
The PPA Awards recognise and reward editorial and publishing excellence, and celebrate the outstanding achievements of the best individuals, publications and brands in the magazine sector.
Named Consumer Magazines Publisher of the Year, Julie triumphed in a very strong shortlist, which also included two other IPC publishing directors, Oswin Grady (for GoodtoKnow) and Linda Swidenbank (for woman&home).
The judges said: “Julie harnessed every opportunity presented to her and had very impressive commercial results to show for it. Her strong appreciation for the audience showed, and she used the momentum she has created to really build the brand.”
Look has redefined the women’s weekly market since launching under editor Ali Hall in 2007, creating the UK’s first high street fashion and celebrity style weekly. Britain's biggest-selling fashion weekly, Look sells more than 1.3 million copies every month, delivering £24.4m in retail sales value annually.
Famous for its experiential marketing, 2010 has already seen the launch of the Look Fashion Show, the first high street fashion show on the London Fashion Week calendar. And earlier this month Look partnered with Office for a very special Style Shack experience at the Isle of Wight Festival. Meanwhile, March saw Look unveil a brand new website at www.look.co.uk, the new home of high street fashion online.
Julie says: “I’m excited and proud to win this award on behalf of Look. It’s a testament to the achievements of everyone involved in Look. Since launch we have been number one on the newsstand, and we’ve continued to innovate to deliver to our loyal and demanding audience in print, online and through live events. 2010 is already proving itself a vintage year, and there’s plenty more to come!”
IPC Connect managing director Fiona Dent adds: “Julie's vision, passion and drive for the Look brand are second to none. Julie has been instrumental in Look's fantastic success right from launch, building the brand in partnership with editor Ali Hall, championing Look's fashion-hungry audience with advertisers, launching look.co.uk and expanding Look across a range of platforms – the pinnacle of which was the Look Show for consumers at London Fashion Week, a first. Julie's success is clear for all to see and her PPA Publisher of the Year award is richly deserved.”
