August 17, 2010

Evelyn Webster to become EVP, Lifestyle Division

August 17, 2010 – Time Inc. announced today that Sylvia Auton, Executive Vice President, will return to the UK to resume her duties as CEO of IPC Media, effective January 2011.  Sylvia came to Time Inc.’s U.S. offices two years ago to establish the company’s Lifestyle Group, which includes brands Cooking Light, Real Simple, Health, Southern Living, All You, Sunset, This Old House and Coastal Living.  In addition to returning to her role as CEO, she will remain as Chairman of IPC Media.

Evelyn Webster, who has served as CEO of IPC Media for two years, will move to the U.S. as EVP, Lifestyle Division, effective January 2011.

“Sylvia is one of the most talented executives in the magazine business.  She has transformed the Lifestyle Group during her time here and, with her mission accomplished, is returning to the CEO role at IPC,” said Ann Moore, Chairman & CEO of Time Inc. “We thank her for all her contributions and look forward to welcoming Evelyn, who we’re confident will continue to build on all the great work Sylvia has done.”

Under Sylvia’s leadership, the Lifestyle Group grew its newsstand and advertising share and revenues and profits have returned to growth.  Southern Living, Cooking Light and Real Simple have undergone comprehensive redesigns that have been acclaimed by both readers and advertisers.

“After four fantastic years working initially part time in the States and then moving here full time, I have learnt more than I ever imagined possible. I’m now really looking forward to working once more with the IPC Board to lead this fantastic company and build on the great work that has been accomplished over the last few years,” said Auton.

Since taking on the CEO role at IPC Media in January 2009, Evelyn has been successful in restructuring the 2000-employee company around three key audience groups: men (IPC Inspire), mass-market women (IPC Connect) and up-market women (IPC Southbank). During her 18-year tenure at IPC, Evelyn launched three of the most successful new brands of the past decade: Look, the UK's first glossy high street fashion and celebrity style weekly; Pick Me Up, which reinvigorated the real life sector, and www.goodtoknow.co.uk, the destination for mass-market women online.

“It has always been an ambition to work for Time Inc. and its incredible brands and when the opportunity arose to take the EVP Lifestyle role it was literally a dream come true,” said Webster.  “It has truly been a privilege to lead IPC for these past two years, I know it has a great future and I couldn’t be handing it back to a better leader.”
