February 22, 2011
NEW YORK (February 22, 2011) – PEOPLE.com, the No. 1 celebrity magazine website and counterpart to PEOPLE magazine, the world’s most popular and successful weekly magazine, announces a live, companion screen experience to coincide with the annual Academy Awards broadcast on Sunday, February 27 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Presented by Sprint (NYSE:S), PEOPLE.com’s “Red Carpet Trivia LIVE” game will allow viewers to test their Hollywood knowledge during the broadcast by answering real-time trivia questions from PEOPLE’s Oscar experts at PEOPLE.com/RedCarpetTrivia. Players may also enter for a chance to win a $10,000 cash prize from Sprint.
“Millions of users depend on PEOPLE.com for comprehensive coverage of all the award shows—the nominees, the red carpet fashion, plus the behind-the-scenes drama,” said Mark Golin, editor of PEOPLE Digital. “Within 24 hours of the Golden Globes this year, PEOPLE.com attracted nearly 75 million page views. We expect even more for the Oscars—essentially the Super Bowl of our industry—especially with this new real-time companion experience. ‘Red Carpet Trivia LIVE’ will provide both casual fans and Oscar buffs a chance to test their knowledge, and possibly win some cash, while watching Hollywood’s biggest night on their TV.”
”We want to make watching the Academy Awards even more fun and engaging so we’re excited to partner with PEOPLE.com to offer viewers ‘Red Carpet Trivia LIVE,’ and the chance to win $10,000,” said Steve Gaffney, vice president, media, sponsorships and experiential marketing at Sprint. “Watching the Oscars is exciting for movie fans and we know our customers in years past have been engaged with the award ceremony by using their mobile phone to text, call or communicate with friends about the awards show via their favorite social media app and now we believe they’ll appreciate the opportunity to participate in a fun trivia game right on their tablet with ‘Red Carpet Trivia LIVE.’”
At the end of each round of the game, players will be eligible to enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win $10,000. PEOPLE.com’s “Red Carpet Trivia LIVE” game is an HTML5 in-browser experience that will be available to Safari, Chrome and Google Chrome frame for Internet Explorer users on their PC, laptop or tablet.
