PEOPLE Releases iPhone App
PEOPLE.com released a dedicated iPhone application called PEOPLE Celebrity News Tracker, which delivers up-to-the-minute breaking news and photos directly from the magazine's reporting bureaus across the country. In its first four weeks, the application, which costs $1.99, was downloaded 30,000 times and reached #4 on Apple's list of the top paid entertainment apps.

Time Inc. Reaches 4 Million People a Day on Twitter
Time Inc.'s core titles are sharing branded content - including breaking news, celebrity interviews and links to stories and videos online - with an audience of more than four million people on Twitter each day. As of July 6th, TIME had reached 1 million followers; PEOPLE had 811,070 followers; InStyle had 615,455 followers; Entertainment Weekly had 520,011 followers; LIFE.com had 448,654 followers and Health had 418,350 followers. Real Simple, CNNMoney.com, Sports Illustrated and Essence also have audiences in the thousands.

ESSENCE.com Names Emil Wilbekin As Managing Editor
Emil Wilbekin, ESSENCE.com's new managing editor, will lead the site's editorial team and work closely with the brand's senior creative and business executives on the development of the site, including original video programming - EXTRA on ESSENCE and ESSENCE TV - and an online community in partnership with the Ning social network. Wilbekin previously served as Editor-in-Chief of GIANT. Prior to that, he was a consultant on behalf of Microsoft for digital ventures. Wilbekin began his career as one of the founding editors of Vibe magazine.

People en Español Survey: Hispanic Women Still Spending, Despite Economic Worries
People en Español released its annual HOT (Hispanic Opinion Tracker) study on June 17th. The study found that while 43% of Hispanic women say are very stressed about the economy, nearly half (47%) say they're spending the same or more, compared with 38 percent of the general market.

GOLF.com Draws Nearly 1 Million Visitors in a Single Day During U.S. Open
GOLF.com enjoyed its biggest traffic day of the year during the U.S. Open on Monday, June 22nd, with nearly 1 million unique visitors. Throughout the Open, the site averaged roughly 415,000 unique users per day, an increase of 8% versus last year. The GOLF.com mobile site had an average of 100,000 unique mobile users during the tournament and video views surged 177% over last year. An editorial team of 15 writers and photographers were onsite at the U.S. Open, contributing hourly to GOLF.com including features, analysis and photography.

TIME Asia Wins SOPA Awards for Editorial Excellence
At the 2009 SOPA (Society of Publishers in Asia) Awards, the most prestigious publishing awards in Asia, TIME Asia won for Excellence in Feature Writing (Crazy for Gold; June 30, 2008), Excellence in Feature Photography (Olympic Machine; June 30,2008) and Excellence in Special Issue (Summer Journey; June 30,2008). TIME Asia also received honorable mention for its Excellence in Information Graphics, News Photography, Digital Journalism, Reporting of Breaking News and Reporting on the Environment. The SOPA Awards for Editorial Excellence were established in 1999 as a tribute to editorial excellence in traditional and new media and are designed to encourage editorial vitality throughout the region.
