This Old House does "Diplomacy for the Holidays"
With just two weeks’ notice, editors from This Old House volunteered, along with five other lifestyle magazines across the industry, to do a holiday makeover on the historic Blair House, the President’s guesthouse. For the project, called “Diplomacy at Home for the Holidays,” This Old House transformed the Truman Study at Blair House by taking visitors back to Christmases of 1948 through 1952. During that period, President Harry S. Truman and his family lived at Blair House while the White House underwent a restoration. For the Lincoln Room at Blair House, they executed an architecturally themed design. Ornaments were chosen based on the room’s period, Federal-style furnishings and details. On Dec. 7, the State Department held two receptions (one hosted by Secretary Clinton) to unveil the rooms. The curators have since decided to add This Old House’s decorations to their permanent collection.
