TIME Launches iPad App
TIME announced the launch of its iPad app, one of the first apps available at the launch of the device. Available for $4.99 in the app store, the TIME iPad app features all the content from the weekly magazine with additional photo slideshows and videos and allows the user to flip through sections as well as zoom in and out of text and photos. The app, which also includes content from TIME's international editions and a live newsfeed from TIME.com, reached the #1 spot among paid media apps downloaded from the app store. Several advertisers supported the launch of the app, including Fidelity, Korean Air, Liberty Mutual, Lexus, Toyota and Unilever.

EW “Must List” App
Entertainment Weekly announced the launch of its Must List App for the iPad, featuring the "Must List," the popular magazine feature highlighting the top 10 things EW's editors love each week. The app allows users to watch movie trailers and listen to audio samples provided by iTunes without leaving the app. Users can purchase their favorites from iTunes and other destinations. The content is refreshed each Friday.

Time Inc. Live & Unfiltered: Rough Justice: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer
As part of Time Inc.'s Live & Unfiltered series, FORTUNE celebrated the release of Rough Justice: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer, a book by FORTUNE Editor-at-Large Peter Elkind. The event included a screening of "Rough Justice" the new film about Spitzer which Elkind and director Alex Gibney collaborated on, followed by a conversation with Elkind and Gibney moderated by FORTUNE managing editor Andy Serwer.

FORTUNE 500
Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, reclaimed the top spot from Exxon Mobil Corp. in the FORTUNE 500 ranking of biggest companies based on annual revenue. Exxon, the world's largest oil company, dropped to second place on the list after the U.S. recession eroded demand for its motor fuels and drove bargain-seeking consumers to Wal-Mart's discounts. Chevron Corp. remained in third place and Bank of America rose to 5th place from 11th. GM, which reorganized in a government-aided bankruptcy last year, fell to 15th place from 6th. It was the first time since the list began in 1955 that the company didn't make the top 10.

Real Simple 10th Anniversary
To mark its 10th anniversary, Real Simple took over Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Terminal for a public event featuring six Broadway performances, food from top restaurants, and demonstrations across the fashion, health, beauty, home, and entertaining arenas. The event was hosted by Real Simple Editor Kristin van Ogtrop, with Q & A sessions with Fashion Designers Norma Kamali, Tracy Reese, and Ginny Hilfiger; Celebrity Hairstylist Sally Hershberger, Finance Journalist and Author Farnoosh Torabi, and Beauty Pioneer Jane Iredale. Real Simple also took over The Great Hall in Union Station in Chicago for the day, offering a performance by The Joffrey Ballet's Academy of Dance and Q & A sessions with Beauty Innovator Mario Tricoci, Former ABC Bachelorette Jillian Harris and other guests.

PEOPLE.com won in the Best Contests category and for Best Use of Twitter; TIME.com won Best Mobile Strategy; RealSimple.com won for Best Redesign/Relaunch; CNNMoney.com won for Best Magazine Branded Video for Assignment Detroit, and InStyle.com won Best Use of Interactivity for integrating Cover Girl into its Hollywood Makeover tool. PEOPLE, InStyle and EW were all recognized as one of the "Most Engaged" brands of 2009.
