SI Kids SportsKid of the Year

SportsKid of the Year honors an athlete aged 7-15 whose performance and contribution on and off the field embodies the leader SI Kids inspires kids to be.

SI Kids has a heritage of supporting and celebrating the positive attributes of sports and those who participate in them. Now in its 10th year, the annual SportsKid of the Year (SKOTY) award strives to recognize kids who exemplify athleticism, sportsmanship, academic excellence and civic involvement. The program has grown into a powerful platform, drawing thousands of national nominations and millions of engaged viewers and readers. In recent years, the franchise has extended the winner reveal to a celebration in the winner’s hometown attended by pro-athletes and the SportsKid’s classmates, family and friends.

In 2014, press impressions across national print, broadcast, online, social & PR surrounding SKOTY & winner Mo’Ne Davis, were over 1 billion.

The Facts

  • Thousands of athletes between the ages of 7 and 15 have been nominated through since the program’s inception in 2007.
  • A few notable SKOTY winners and runner ups include Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin, Little League Baseball superstar, Mo’Ne Davis and 2016 Olympic hopeful, Reece Whitley.
  • Starting in 2014, the SKOTY platform has been brought to life through a fun and interactive event that fosters physical play and generates even more awareness around SKOTY.
  • The SportsKid of the Year is also honored alongside Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year at a star studded celebration.
