The Search for America’s Best Remodel

Proof that can-do spirit and creating a home are still cornerstones of the American Dream.

Our annual contest invites readers to share remodeling stories in all their raw drama. More than 4,200 people entered last year for the chance to appear in the magazine and to pass along hard-won lessons and proud accomplishments. All the entries are remarkable in some way, full of seemingly unattainable dreams, stubborn determination, gut-wrenching sweat equity - and eventually, some rest.

The contest receives 6 million media impressions each year

The Facts

  • The Contest was previously dubbed Ad Age “Idea of the Year.”
  • The winners are announced in our annual 100% Reader-Created Issue, an idea This Old House ran with long before UGC began trending.
  • Readers can enter whole house remodels or smaller redos like kitchens, baths or yards.
  • Our community of makers is invited to submit creative building projects of any kind - the quirkier and more original, the better.
